Why online privacy matters
One of the fastest-growing businesses on the Internet is the business of spying on internet users. The profiles of individuals are bought and sold on stock-market-like exchanges that have sprung up in recent years. Each day millions of pieces of information, about specific individuals' browsing habits, change hands. Insurance companies and banks have shown interest in health-related information about individuals. It is conceivable, in the not so distant future, the data is used to deny individuals a mortgage or loan.
At this time it is unsure where this market is heading. It could very well go underground as the value of the data increases and compliancy tightens.
